Kaombo

| Angola | Total | Topsides valve supply including valve engineering support

Project background

The Kaombo FPSOs operate in water depths of 1,400m to 2,000m, approximately 260km off the Angolan coast. The FPSOs are both ultra-deepwater and high capacity and therefore presented complex technical challenges. The produced gas is transported to the Angola LNG plant (another PJV reference).

Scope of supply

PJ Valves worked very closely with the water injection, SRU module fabricator and manufactured and supplied all the manual valves to these huge modules. These consisted of ball, gate, globe, butterfly, DBB valves in Ni Al Bronze, super duplex, stainless steel and PFA lined.

  • Trunnion mounted ball valves
  • Double block and bleed valves and single block and bleed valves
  • Floating ball valves
  • Gate, globe and check valves
  • Butterfly valves

Outcome

We successfully proposed alternative valve types (approved by Total on other projects) that resulted in significant savings in terms of cost and complexity. The total cost savings amounted to approximately 40% of the customer’s overall valve spend.

Scope change support

We developed and implemented an improved documentation process

Relevant products

Mooring applications call for a diverse range of products with common features in specification and configuration.

High pressures, metal seating and corrosion resistant alloy materials are typical requirements.

A call for true partnership: moving the customer-supplier relationship beyond a zero-sum game

If a word is overused enough, it begins to lose a sense of its original meaning. Think of the word ‘awesome’, casually deployed for anything slightly positive. Over time, a once-grand word has lost its connection with the idea of awe.
